STONEWARE FOR OUR WALLS AND FLOORS
Although it looks like if it was the same material, wall ceramic tile is not made of the same material as floor ceramic tiles. The later on is stoneware, a much more hard, heavy and resistant material, which is ready to be stepped on and used as floor tile. In its manufacture are some more steps and different materials, which reinforce its structure.
STONEWARE FOR OUR WALLS AND FLOORS
Wall ceramic tile is a piece of ceramic, made from red or white clay, finished with a glaze that has the final design and used to give final shape to the tile. Currently, the enamel has been replaced by ink, releasing printers and giving way to make designs much more vivid.
Clay which is used for stoneware is finer than the one that is used for wall tiles, so its finish is different. The firing temperature of the floor tile pieces is higher than for wall tiles. This point also makes that their final finish is different.
The finer grain in their composition makes them less porous and this influences their capacity of water absorption, so it is very suitable for flooring. Stoneware is designed to withstand harsh conditions and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
In fact, it is not uncommon to see some facades coated with stoneware tiles, which resist better bad weather than white body tiles, which are used primarily for the interiors. Formats tend to be different, and in the case of stoneware, to be laid on the floor, use to be larger than wall tiles.
In terms of design possibilities, both materials can be covered with very varied designs and create unique rooms. In the case of stoneware, there is another option, which is the extruded porcelain, which has an almost zero level of absorption thanks to a higher pressure at the time of pressing, a higher temperature when cooking that makes it harder.
Finally, there are porcelain tiles, which are the most hard and resistant, which can be used both outdoors and indoors, especially in commercial centers or others high traffic places.
