Small or big size tiles?
When we are considering decorating the spaces of our house, we often have a doubt, regardless to the style of the decoration... ¿Might we use small size tiles, or larger ones? It is obvious that we need to solve it before we start looking for the tiles that we will put on our floors and our walls.
The small format is usually used for rooms that are not too large. On one hand, since tiles dimension fits rooms ones, tiles bring a warmer vision, with more details on the floor. On the other hand, a larger room can accept other larger formats that help to highlight its dimensions.
Small size tiles bring warmth and proximity to a room. This kind of formats is usually associated with a more traditional and classic style, because it is the format of the ceramic pieces since their appearance, small, and whose finish is different. This is the reason why they are more present in the vintage style, which can be very pleasant in the kitchens or in a more rustic atmosphere.
Larger sizes tiles can easier be placed on floor, even in small rooms. Tiles of 45 x 45 cm, 50 x 50 or similar are usual. We can use a tiling of larger format in a large space, especially if the whole style is more modern.
However, some believe that this kind of formats takes floor personality away. Really, we can create more intimate spaces using smaller parts and run away from impersonality that offers us such big size tile.
As always, it depends on personal tastes, which can be conditioned not only by tile dimension, but also by the kind of furniture and the style chosen for our home decoration.
